JOB PURPOSE

Participate as an active member of the management team, fulfilling the company’s mission of consistently meeting customer needs, continually improving operations and achieving financial goals. Specifically responsible exhibiting a high level of professional and ethical behavior in their representation of the Company; ensuring the cutting and packaging of company products at the highest quality and the lowest possible cost, meeting company performance standards, customer specifications, and delivery requirements in accordance with company policies and procedures; maintaining a high level of operating efficiency and safety at the Company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Ensure Company policy is consistently followed and employee relations issues are appropriately resolved in a manner consistent with Company culture.

• Represent Company best interest in all activities and communicate to plant manager any complaints, concerns, questions, or any issues that would have an influence on Company.

• Must be accurate, honest, detail orientated, punctual, organized, and highly respectful of confidentiality.

• Communicate and work professionally and effectively, build and maintain positive work relationships with plant personnel, customers, regulatory inspectors, vendors, and other business associates.

• Responsible for meeting department budget requirements.

• Provide direct supervision to packaging employees to maintain employee efficiency, effectiveness, team work, and good morale. In addition, evaluate employees for safe working procedures related to employee and product safety and implement training and corrective action accordingly.

• Ensure employees are properly trained to efficiently and effectively perform their job responsibilities in a safe manner.

• Conduct employee dialogues and set goal and development objectives.

• Ensure equipment and facilities are maintained in good, clean, and safe operating condition.

• Assess labor needs on an on-going basis and make decisions with regard to labor increases and decreases to ensure cost effective labor utilization.

• Check daily time sheets for accuracy of hours worked each day, and use this information to assure cost effective labor utilization.

• Direct all cheese cutting and packaging functions at Company efficiently and within the guidelines established for quality, food safety and employee safety.

• Monitor cheese inventory levels, ensuring cheese is available for customer orders. Coordinate cheese inventory needs with the Production Manager to meet packaging requirements.

• Maintain employee work schedules while achieving established labor cost standards for the packaging of all cheese manufactured at the facility. Coordinate Vacation and Personal day scheduling.

• Maintain cheese quality by reviewing all packaging records for accuracy, ensuring that all Federal, State, and Company regulations are followed. Ensure conformance to all customers packaging specifications.

• Develop labor standards for all cutting and packaging lines ensuring accurate product cost.

• Assist in the hiring of new employees; direct their orientation and training.

• Maintain equipment in good operating condition by properly training employees in operating procedures and routine maintenance.

• Recommend and assist in the purchase of new capital items to ensure the most effective utilization of time and equipment in the packaging department.

• Control the inventories of all supplies in the packaging department so they match the needs, and recommend alternative supplies as needed.

• Ensure all packaging data is accurately entered into the production accounting inventory system.

• Participate in continuing education courses and seminars in order to keep active in new technologies utilized in the cheese industry.

• Ensure high product quality, package appearance, and excellent craftsmanship.

• Ensure Company health and quality standards are followed assuring high cheese quality and safety.

• Ensure that all plant personnel follow Good Manufacturing Practices and demonstrate good personal hygiene in all work activities.

• Implement Company vision, mission, strategy and values to tasks of the department.

KEY PERSONNEL ABSENCE

During periods of absence, the Packaging Supervisor will assume the responsibilities of the Packaging Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
