POSITION: Maintenance Manager

SALARY: Negotiable

POSITION SUMMARY: Manages the work activities of plant maintenance employees and operating engineers, on all shifts who are engaged in the repair, upkeep, and monitoring of all production processing, packaging, refrigeration, boilers and other support equipment used in the production of milk, ice cream, or cultured products.

RESPONSIBILITIES Include but are not limited to:

1. Provides work assignments and direction to maintenance employees and operating engineers engaged in repair and upkeep of all pasteurizing, separating, freezing, cooling, filling, mixing, standardizing, packaging and storing operations of milk, ice cream or cultured products so the production process flows smoothly and daily production goals are met.

2. Manages ordering and receiving of all maintenance parts and equipment in order that all equipment is kept in operational condition.

3. Identifies cost saving opportunities for efficiency of operations and energy conservation. Presents opportunities to management for approval and implements the plans.

4. Supervises preventive maintenance scheduling so that the appropriate repairs are done to ensure efficient and timely machine operation.

5. Monitors the pasteurizing, separating, freezing, cooling, filling, mixing, standardizing and storing operation to ensure that plant equipment meets GMPs and regulatory standards.

6. Assists Plant Manager in the supervision and planning of capital projects. Is involved with the bidding process and direction of outside contractors on all work performed in the plant.

7. Creates capital expense requests (CERs), evaluates quotes, works with vendors, and monitors work to ensure quality.

8. Assists the Plant Manager or Assistant Plant Manager with compiling and analyzing production and cost data for required company and government reports.

9. Responsible for preparing documentation for storm water and hazardous material government reports.

10. Monitors equipment used in production process (i.e. pasteurizer and cooler tanks) to ensure that equipment is functioning properly.

11. Keeps plant manager aware of all matters that may require his/her attention.

12. Performs other duties/projects as apparent or assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises 10 20 maintenance employees and operating engineers.

SCOPE OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for the allocation of an annual operating budget of $1,000,000 including supplies, equipment, purchases, repairs, expenses, and payroll.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

• Working knowledge of union contract and obligations, and ability to work effectively with bargaining unit employees.

• Strong working knowledge of all aspects of Ammonia refrigeration equipment and operation.

• Strong working knowledge of general business concepts and practices, especially as they relate to dairy business.

• Demonstrated knowledge of dairy industry production, practices, processes and equipment.

• Ability to demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills.

• Ability to make and implement personnel decisions critical to subordinates,' pay levels and employment status.

• Proficient in PLC Applications and design.

Completion of a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering with emphasis on manufacturing operations plus 4 5 years of job related work experience in dairy production with minimum 2 years supervisory experience in a production environment.

OR

An additional 7 10 years of job related work experience in lieu of a completed bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience.
