POSITION: Director of Plant Operations
LOCATION: Iowa
SALARY: $100-110K
SUMMARY: Ensure the safe and cost efficient production of the highest
quality dairy, juice, and cultured dairy products possible through provided
leadership to the production team, quality team, and the cultured products team.
Direct and evaluate all plant operations to achieve all corporate goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Direct and monitor all flow plans for processing and filling equipment
by establishing priorities and matching production to customer demands in a timely,
quality conscious, and cost efficient manner
Help define and monitor plant controls and standards
Define and set standards for all production managers by informing the Department
Heads of these items
Direct the managers (through their respective managers). Monitor plant
sanitation practices and quality standards.
Review the performances of all production manager
Make sure company policies and safety regulations are enforced
Conduct performance reviews on the Plant Manager, Maintenance Manager, Cultured
Products Manager, Assistant Director of Plant Operations, Plant Production Planner,
Purchasing Manager, and HR Director
Manage plant operational expenses, ingredient expenditures, and plant supply expenditures
Help establish and monitor plant production budgets
Direct, research, investigate and help design plant concept and physical
changes to the plant infrastructure. Competitively seek bids and select plant operation
equipment for these changes
Provide opportunities for managers to train and continue their education
Monitor and help control plant butterfat and product shrinkage
Direct new production projects and equipment installation
Manage milk procurement, order raw milk deliveries, and monitor raw milk delivery
issues. Help deal with raw milk quality issues with our suppliers in conjunction with
the Quality Control Department. Keep tabs on incoming milkas to delivery times.
Help deal with treated cream sales and shipping.
Report weekly to the CEO, VP/COO, Vice President of Finance, Marketing Director,
Distribution Manager, Cooler Manager, and the Chairman of the Board all pertinent information
on plant operations for the preceding week
Work with the plant management and the city sewer system representatives to
ensure substantial compliance with the pollutant limitation of the companys sewer permit
Work with DNR to ensure compliance with the storm water permit
Work as the lead person to ensure the compliance with the PMO by working with the
local Dept. of Ag. Inspector, the State Health Dept., Survey officers, the regional FDA inspectors,
Armed Forces inspectors and any other inspection entities may be required
Serve as a point of contact between the sales force and the plant operations
Keep the biosecurity files updated and keep the plant current on biosecurity regulations
Help the plant management chart and record the machine efficiencies of the various machines and
departments
Help the maintenance department schedule downtimes and preventative maintenance projects
Serve as a lead contact with our cleaning chemical and cleaning equipment companies.
Look at cost containment in this area with emphasis on keeping our highest quality standards
Help the HR department in dealings with the union and the union contract. Be a representative
on the collective bargaining tea
Hold and help lead daily meetings with the production supervisory staff
and provide them information and leadership
Keep current on the hazardous chemical rules. These include Tier 2s,
RMPs, OSHA PSMs, EPA form Rs and any other related EPS or OSHA requirement with the
help of the safety department
Hold monthly meetings with all the supervisory staff to keep them
informed of progress or problems due to action of the supervisory staff. Keep
everyone informed of current and future capital projects. Solicit their input
to capital, staffing and other needs in the plant
Be the primary contact for the utilities representatives to the company.
Help track and graph monthly usage of natural gas, electric, sewer, and water charges.
Work with utilities on cost saving sharing programs.
Responsible for the food and safety and the food quality of products
manufactured when at the facility
