JOB TITLE: Corp QA Manager – Co-Packers Food Div

(Conduit between suppliers and the company for manufacturing, quality and any specification/performance issues arising)

LOCATION: Chicago area SALARY: $75- $98K + bonus (0-15%)

Job Description

The QA Manager is able to facilitate robust product solutions, provide detailed specification inputs, advise on Regulatory requirements and document control procedures, work with Manufacturers, Co-Packers, suppliers to problem solve issues and work with available resources (internal and external) to identify root causes and provide corrective actions. This position is the conduit between suppliers and the company for manufacturing, quality and any specification/performance issues arising. The QA Manager works very closely with internal resources such as Global Procurement, Test Kitchens, Solution Center (call center), Distribution Center and Legal and external third party food-expert contract resources. Position reports to the Corp Dir of QA.

• Shared responsibility for managing/supervising the Incoming Inspection resources and delivering daily audits of all Pantry products received for timely release into the company.

• Responsible for identifying, quarantine and control all non-compliant Food products on-site at the company. Will establish root cause understanding and corrective action plans at Supplier/Manufacturer through formal Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) and Supplier Charge-Back (SCB) procedures and investigation, ensuring timely response and completion is met for product to be either returned to manufacturer or sorted for stock.

• To work closely with the Test Kitchens when required to help develop sound Food Product Specifications. Ensure all QA related documentation is in place on all new products prior to production launch and to be a significant lead in the maintenance, documentation and assuring consistent quality of existing pantry products. Enforce company performance standards and support the Suppliers/Manufacturers in establishing accurate and timely Quality Control Plans (QCPs) to document the manufacturing processes and inspection points.

• Responsible for providing key stages of product testing an evaluation (e.g. Accelerated Shelf Life and performance testing and Regulatory compliance) recorded through the company QPAC process, ensuring timely response and meticulous recording of findings and communication of results to the cross-functional team members.

• To be the on-site technical expert and liaison between company Test Kitchens and Suppliers/ Manufacturers with production processing knowledge for dry and liquid foods.

• Assure compliance with policies and procedures, as well as FDA, State and local Regulations.
Conduct and participate in, Supplier/Manufacturer visits and audits as needed. Work closely with Suppliers/Manufacturers to ensure HACCP plans and necessary Certifications are in place and recorded in Master Control database.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science/Technology, Nutrition, Chemistry, Microbiology, relevant Engineering/Technical discipline.

• Minimum 5 years experience in QA/QC in a consumer packaged food related goods manufacturing environment…Experience with dry spice & seasonings mixes, rubs, , specialty bread mixes, wet sauces, etc. for application in a wide diversity of food products & entrees preferred.

• Demonstrated steady and proven career advancement history with at least 10 years overall experience in Food related Quality/Technical Product Development and Product Maintenance of Food related Consumer Products.

• Preferably at least 2 years experience as a direct line Manager.

Relevant Experience:

• Food and/or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience essential.

• Reading and writing technical reports and procedures.

• In identifying problems, achieving root cause understanding and providing short and long term solutions and corrective actions.
• Working with HACCP Programs a plus.

• Running quality at US based food related manufacturing facility and direct experience working with ingredient suppliers preferred.

• Working in high performing team based culture, running/participating with cross functional teams a must (working with Engineering, Product Development, Purchasing, Marketing, Supply Chain, etc.)

• Working with SPC/Process and Capability Studies beneficial.

• Proficiency in Spanish would be beneficial.
